Want to support our Veterans this Christmas—or any time of year?

Here at House in the Woods, we host Veteran and military family retreats ALL year, and pantry staples help us feed and care for hundreds of Veterans and military families who walk through our doors.

If you’d like to give food items that we use all year long, here are some of the essentials that make a BIG impact. These can be made during the holiday season or ANY time of year:

Breakfast Essentials

• Pancake mix (large bags or boxes)

• Regular rolled oats (bulk)

Lunch & Dinner Staples

• Any pasta (elbow, spaghetti, penne—ALL are needed!)

• Pasta sauce (jarred or canned)

• Instant mashed potatoes

• Canned veggies (corn, green beans, peas, mixed—ANY works!)

• Canned baked beans

• Canned chicken

• Seasonings (garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, chili powder—we use ALL)

• Cooking oil (vegetable or olive oil)

Baking & Kitchen Basics

• Sugar (granulated, powdered, brown)

• Flour

• Baking powder & baking soda

• Chocolate chips

• Cooking spray

• Condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayo packets)

Snacks for Veterans & Volunteers

• Crackers (saltines, Ritz, Cheez-Its)

• Trail mix

• Mixed nuts & peanuts

• Pretzels

• Popcorn kernels (for our popcorn maker!)

• Jerky sticks

• Cookies (Oreos, Chips Ahoy, etc.)

Miscellaneous Pantry Items

• Peanut butter

• Jelly (shelf-stable)

• Honey

• Marshmallows

• Graham crackers

• Chocolate candy bars (tiny bags—holidays = great sales!)

• Bottled BBQ sauce

• Pickles (shelf-stable jars)

• Canned tomatoes (diced, crushed, whole)

• Tomato paste

• Dry beans (kidney, black, pinto)

• Sloppy Joe mix

• Instant rice sides (single-serve packs)
